General Questions

Do you offer free estimates?

Yes. We provide free, no-obligation estimates for all of our services. During your consultation, we'll assess your project, discuss your needs and preferences, and provide a detailed written estimate. Call (540) 765-7786 or use our contact form to schedule your free estimate.

Are you licensed and insured?

Yes. We hold a Class A Virginia contractor license and carry general liability and workers' compensation insurance to protect both our team and your property. We are also a BBB Accredited Business, and we have worked in the New River Valley since 2007.

What areas do you serve?

We serve Christiansburg, Blacksburg, and Radford in the New River Valley. That covers Montgomery County (Christiansburg and Blacksburg) and the City of Radford, where our shop is at 1105 West St. We also serve Dublin and Pulaski and nearby communities. If you're unsure whether we cover your area, contact us and we'll confirm.

How long have you been in business?

Blue Ridge Roofing & Home Improvement was founded by Joseph Ashby in 2007 and has served the New River Valley for 19 years. That time has given us deep knowledge of local building codes, weather patterns, and the specific needs of homes in our area.

Project Timeline & Process

How long does a typical project take?

It depends on the scope. A typical residential roof replacement takes 1–3 days, while larger commercial projects take longer. Siding installation usually takes 3–7 days, and window replacement can often be completed in 1–2 days. We'll give you a timeline during your consultation and keep you informed throughout. Weather and material availability can occasionally move the schedule.

What is your project process from start to finish?

It starts with a free consultation where we assess your needs and provide a written estimate. Once you approve it, a deposit (typically 15% of the project cost) schedules the work and orders materials. Before work begins, we prepare the site and protect your property. We clean up daily, and when the job is done we walk through it with you and answer any questions about maintenance or warranties.

Will I need to be home during the project?

For most exterior projects like roofing, siding, and gutter installation, you don't need to be home during the work. We do recommend being available for the initial consultation and the final walk-through. For window replacement, someone should be home to provide access.

How do you handle weather delays?

We don't work in unsafe weather. If weather delays the job, we'll tell you promptly and reschedule as soon as conditions improve. Delays don't change the quality of the work or our commitment to finishing it properly.

Roofing Questions

How do I know if I need a roof repair or replacement?

Signs you may need roof work include missing or damaged shingles, leaks or water stains on ceilings, sagging areas, excessive granule loss, or a roof over 20 years old. During our free inspection, we'll assess your roof's condition and give you an honest recommendation. Sometimes a repair is enough. If the roof has widespread damage or is near the end of its lifespan, replacement is often more cost-effective long-term.

What roofing materials do you work with?

We install asphalt shingles (architectural and 3-tab), metal roofing, and flat roofing systems including TPO and EPDM. We'll help you choose the best material for your home based on your budget, the look you want, and the requirements of the building.

Do you offer roof warranties?

Yes. Material warranties vary by manufacturer and product, typically ranging from 20 years to lifetime coverage. We also provide our own workmanship warranty. We'll explain all warranty details during your consultation so you know exactly what's covered.

Can you help with insurance claims for storm damage?

Yes. We have extensive experience working with insurance companies on storm damage claims. We document the damage with photos and notes, meet with your insurance adjuster, and guide you through the claims process.

How often should I have my roof inspected?

We recommend a professional inspection at least once every 2–3 years, and after any major storm. Regular inspections catch small issues before they become expensive problems. Our roof inspections are free.

Pricing & Payment

How much does a new roof cost?

Roof replacement costs depend on roof size, pitch, material, and complexity. A typical residential roof replacement in our area ranges from $8,000 to $25,000 or more. During your free consultation, we'll provide a detailed, itemized estimate specific to your project.

What payment methods do you accept?

We accept cash, checks, and credit cards, and financing is available. Typically, we require a deposit (usually 15% of the project cost) to order materials and begin work, with the balance due when the project is complete.

Do you provide written estimates?

Yes. All of our estimates are in writing, with detailed breakdowns of materials, labor, and any additional costs. We encourage you to compare our estimate with others and ask about any line item.

Are there any hidden fees?

No. Our written estimates include all anticipated costs. If unexpected issues come up during the project, such as hidden structural damage, we'll show you and get your approval before doing any additional work.

What if I find a lower price elsewhere?

Let us know. We'll review the other estimate and do our best to match or beat it whenever possible.

Do you offer financing options?

Yes. We offer financing to help make roofing and home improvement projects more affordable. Ask about financing during your free consultation and we'll go over the available plans.

Additional Services

Do you handle both residential and commercial projects?

Yes. We work on everything from single-family homes to commercial buildings. On commercial jobs we coordinate with property managers and plan the work to keep the business running.

Can you help with home improvements beyond roofing?

Yes. Roofing is our specialty, but we also install siding, replace windows and exterior doors, install gutters, and build decks. We also handle roof ventilation & insulation, skylight installation, chimney repair & maintenance. That makes us a single point of contact for most exterior projects.

Do you provide color and material consultations?

Yes. We bring samples to your consultation and help you choose colors and materials that suit your home. We can also show you completed projects from our gallery to help you picture the result.
